How Tim saved hours writing for the Native American Flute

Hi Sibelius and GMT fans:

Today I want to tell you about Tim — a composer who writes for the Native American Flute.

When writing for this beautiful instrument, there’s an established notation system called Nakai Tablature, which often includes finger charts to show the fingering positions.

Striving with Finger Charts

When writing his scores, Tim found that for each note, he had to manually create the corresponding fingering position using an external design app, export it as an image, and then import it into the score. That’s a lot of extra work!

The solution: The Graphical NAF Tool

Through our Custom Tool Program, we created the Graphical Native American Flute Tool, which lets you set fingerings quickly and intuitively. With just one click, the chart is inserted directly into the score.

Even better, Tim can now select a passage and, with one more click, automatically generate all the finger charts for the selected notes.
