New Tool! Arabic/Maqam Signatures in Sibelius

Insert expanded key signatures with quarter sharps and flats, ideal for Arabic/Maqam music

Hi Sibelius and ScoringWorld friends,

Today I’m excited to announce the release of our new notation tool: Maqam Signatures.

Created in collaboration with Ahmed El-Mougy through our Custom Tool program, this tool lets you build custom key signatures which include, aside from the standard accidentals, quarter flats and quarter sharps.

The tool addresses a long-standing gap in Sibelius for composers writing Arabic/Maqam music.

Creating your signatures

The tool has an intuitive visual interface where you can drag and drop accidentals onto the staff.

Once you’ve built yours, click Apply to insert it.

You have the option to apply the key signature to all staves in the score or just the selected ones.

Automatic pitch shift commands

Aside from the notation aspect, the tool also includes an option to automatically insert the corresponding pitch shift commands, so that quarter sharps and flats sound as intended.

Now available on ScoringWorld

The tool is now vailable here:

We hope you enjoy it as much as we did creating it. See you in the next one!
